Lolo Jones Challenges Eric LeGrand (A Quadriplegic) to a $40k footrace

I tend to enjoy looking at Lolo Jones and actually find her fairly humorous on Twitter. And while I believe this was an honest mistake, it doesn’t make it look any better.

She has since deleted the tweet, but as you’ll see she challenged Eric LeGrand to a $40k footrace. LeGrand is now a quadriplegic after suffering a devastating spinal injury while playing for Rutgers University.

And in fairness, the conversation appears to have been started by LeGrand, but again, it doesn’t make it look any better…

Did Clay Matthews get in touch with his inner Britney Spears?

Clay Matthews has taken the NFL by storm this year due to his incredible on the field performances as well as his charismatic personality. Honestly, you must only listen to one interview with the young man to come away impressed with both his professionalism as well as his sense of humor. He is known, in addition to his defensive prowess, for his long blonde locks. So much so, that Suave recently signed him to an endorsement deal similar to that of Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.

“The Claymaker” had a little fun with his sponsors and with his fans today, however, when he tweeted the above picture. Along with the picture, Matthews tweeted “Just got my Britney Spears on… what do you think???” Obviously in reference to Britney’s breakdown a few years back when she was threatened to be tested for drug use which prompted her to shave her head completely.

For Matthews, this is obviously (hopefully) just a bit of fun with his fans and newest sponsor because he’s getting far too much money to maintain that hair to just shave it off for a laugh. I’m sure this is part of some other commercial venture or comedic performance.

Is there now a bounty on Wes Welker’s head?

In response to the week long trash talk event, Wes Welker came up with the most original, clever, hilarious, and obviously light-hearted response earlier in the week. He took subtle shots at Rex Ryan’s foot fetish by referencing toes, feet, foot, foot soldiers, etc. multiple times during his media session the other day. Pretty hilarious if you ask me.

But not if you ask Bart Scott. Scott, the Jets linebacker and extension of Rex Ryan as they both have nearly the same personality, was none too pleased. In fact, when asked about it by Newsday reporters he offered this:

“I’ll tell you what, Be very careful what you say about our coach. His days in a uniform will be numbered. Put it like that.”

Now Bart loves to talk and he is a bit of a hot head, but would he really take Welker’s joking comments to the next level by actually trying to hurt the man? There have long been stories of bounties placed on the heads of certain players and Rex’s father, Buddy is actually said to have originated this practice. So is it impossible? No. But my guess, as is usually the case, is that the guy who does the most talking does the least when it comes down to it.

I’m sure Bart is just trying to send a message to Welker and the rest of the NFL that his coach’s sexual fetishes are off limits as far as trash talk goes. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of the back and forth through the media… I can’t wait for kickoff.

LeBron’s New Logo: Sneak Peek

 

LeBron James had an extremely well known marketing campaign, logo, and signature for his first seven years in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After a complete change, including teams, number, and ad campaign, LeBron and Nike were forced to change his logo and signature. While I don’t know what the signature will look like (and I don’t really care), we do have a sneak peek at the new logo.

It looks to be his initials (sorta) and the tiara, errrr crown to signify his “majesty”. Like I said, not all that impressive to me, but we’ll see how it looks when it’s rolled out and fully implemented.

Braylon Edwards: Classy, Real Classy….

 

 

In the first quarter of the Cleveland Browns vs. New York Jets game today, Braylon Edwards caught a pass and was initially hit by Browns cornerback, Sheldon Brown. Other Browns swarmed to the ball and helped to bring him down. Sheldon Brown hurt his shoulder on the play and was laying on the ground as the play was coming to an end. While Brown was laying on the field, Braylon threw a semi-punch at Browns cornerback Eric Wright and pushed some Browns and did what Braylon does best, talk.

While he was jawing at the Browns, you could hear on the telecast as Braylon Edwards screamed to injured Browns player, Sheldon Brown “Get yo ass up!”.

Classy Braylon… way to talk sh*t to an injured player.

Then a few plays later, Mark Sanchez threw a third down pass to Braylon Edwards over the middle in the endzone. Braylon, who just moments ago wanted to be a tough guy and talk sh*t to an injured player, completely avoided going for that ball as it was over the middle and Browns hard hitting safety, T.J. Ward was in the vicinity. Funny how he’s such a tough guy when the refs and his teammates are around to break up any action, but when he has a real chance at getting popped in the mouth he makes ZERO attempt at catching the pass.

Well Braylon… I had my damn popcorn ready and so far all I’ve seen is a classless, scared, coward short arm a pass in the endzone.

 

Cleveland Browns Linebacker Marcus Benard Collapses Before Practice

 

 

Cleveland Browns linebacker, Marcus Benard collapsed today in front of his locker. The scary moment occurred at 12:25 PM today after he fell to the ground after sitting on a chair in the locker room talking on the phone. Fellow linebacker Matt Roth raced to the training room for help after seeing his teammate collapse.

Benard reportedly never lost consciousness, but he was taken to the ambulance on a stretcher. He is reported to have collapsed immediately before players took the field for practice and as media finished up interviews for the day. It is not known at this time what caused the collapse or the current status of Benard.

It’s obviously a very scary situation any time a player collapses like that and everyone obviously wishes Marcus a speedy recovery and we’re all hoping it is nothing serious.

Randy Moss to the Unemployment Line

 

 

Well that didn’t take long…. after a desperate move to acquire Randy Moss and try to salvage their dismal season, the Minnesota Vikings have released Randy Moss. This occurs just one day after Moss openly criticized Head Coach Brad Childress, the Vikings coaching staff and absolutely gushed over his former coach, Bill Belichick.

Moss was fined $25,000 for not speaking to Minnesota media last week and in his post-game presser after yesterday’s loss to his former team, he notified the media that he wouldn’t be answering any questions for the rest of the year. At least from them that is. Randy told reporters that he would conduct his own interviews and answer only the questions he asked himself. Bizarre, but not that shocking when you consider who we’re talking about.

Add this type of behavior along with his limited role, effort and production in the Vikings offense and the sad reality that the team is likely out of the playoff race and you are left with today’s results. Randy Moss has been cut by the Vikings after being acquired via trade from the Patriots only 3 weeks ago. The crazy career of the great Randy Moss takes yet another unexpected turn and we’ll now sit and wait for another playoff contender to scoop him up.

Randy can still play at a very high level and if a team is willing to roll the dice and sign him to at least a decent extension, they might be able to reign him in for the rest of the year and maybe two. Say what you want about Moss, but when he’s happy & motivated, he is a force and he can add tremendous value to a playoff contender.

LeBron James Turns up the HEAT on the Cavaliers

LeBron James spent 7 incredible years in Cleveland, but never ONCE attempted to recruit another player to the team. It’s confirmed that when other free agents, like Shaquille O’Neal were acquired by the Cavs, LeBron not only didn’t participate, but he didn’t even pick up the phone to contact Shaq after the deal was in place. But since his defection to the Miami Heat, LeBron has been quite the recruiter. He was key in bringing fan favorite Zydrunas Ilgauskas, good friend Mike Miller, and he even talked heavily with and picked Derek Fisher up from the airport in an attempt to sign the veteran PG. LeBron also unsuccessfully tried to steal away current Cavalier and close friend, Jawad Williams. This is just another example of why Cleveland fans feel so jilted as LeBron literally recruited more players in a week in Miami than he did in 7 full years with the Cavaliers.

But since the acquisition of the BIG THREE in Miami, the team has been struggling to fill in the surrounding pieces. The team undoubtedly lacks depth and has some glaring deficiencies aside from their 3 stars (and even including Bosh). One of the key positions that they have been looking to fill is that of a point guard to alleviate some of the pressure off of LeBron James. Quite honestly I think Pat Riley sees some of the bad habits LeBron has when he dominates the ball and wants to minimize any potential issues down the road with trying to curtail this. Pat Riley is a very smart guy….

After LeBron left this summer, Daniel “Boobie” Gibson has been one of the fan favorites, especially after his letter to Cavs fans thanking them for their loyalty and for making him feel like he’s at home (http://bit.ly/9iK0PS). Unfortunately for Cavs fans, LeBron James isn’t quite done twisting the knife. Reports came out last night during the Cavs game that Boobie Gibson is being targeted by the Miami Heat for a trade to fill their lack of depth and talent at the PG position. Keep in mind, that LeBron James LOVED Boobie Gibson during his time in Cleveland and they have always been very close.

I don’t think Dan Gilbert would deal a current key player to Miami in an effort to help their championship run. I really don’t. But I also didn’t think that Gilbert would trade sign & trade LeBron James, allowing him to get his max contract. Granted, it was the correct basketball decision as it allowed the team to get something back for LeBron, but I really didn’t think he would do it. So, while I don’t think we need to worry about losing Boobie to the Heat, you never really know. If they offer enough draft picks (they don’t have any players to offer), it might be enough to sway Gilbert. Boobie appears to be flourishing in the new system and he genuinely seems like he cares about the team, the city and the fans, so I HOPE that we get a chance to see what he can do for Byron Scott.

But if we have learned anything from the events of this summer, it’s that we can NEVER underestimate the ability of LeBron James to inflict maximum damage on the Cleveland fan base.
